De Quervain's Syndrome: Kathryn Heim, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon
Hand specialist Dr. Kathryn Heim explains De Quervain's Disease / Syndrome - tendonitis that affects specific tendons in the wrist that go out towards the thumb. This tendonitis causes a painful condition when the patient performs certain movements, particularly with their thumb, and swelling may be present. The two tendons run through a small tunnel in the wrist. When they become inflamed, they sometimes won't glide very well through that tunnel, and it becomes painful to move the thumb or wrist.
